DUELLING
(Pictured is Department Head, Mr Smarsit)
Duelling is one of the most important subjects that we teach our Charmings. Begun in the Dark Era of Lilantium, Duelling was the most widely acknowledged form of conflict resolution. It was seen as a favourable alternative to the Dark War bloodshed that had shadowed the land for forty years. The downside, of course, was that the war lasted a further sixty years with the large battles downsized to one-on-one combat - with most combatants dying before their turn even came.
At the Academy we teach our Charmings discipline, respect and patience in their Duelling lessons. Students are told to resolve their issues with fellow Charmings in the Duelling arena - it serves two purposes: the first being extra practice, the second being a solution to their argument. The better student wins and matters are put to rest.
Students begin studying Duelling in their first year, and continue to study it daily until they are given their quests at the end of their third year. We place a high priority on Duelling as it is still considered the only civil way to settle matters. Extra lessons are available for students who struggle to grasp the concept quickly.

An Extract From Capurna, You Fiend! by Soltrad Gardun
This is one of the set textbooks in first year Duelling.
"Duelling is an artform not often appreciated by the greater masses. It requires cunning, skill, and a great tactical knowledge to outwit your opponent. Within the lessons of Duelling we find comfort, stablility, and an excuse to whip someone stupid."

What Students Are Saying
"Mr Smarsit is the best teacher I've ever had. Thanks to him and the Duelling lessons, I was able to win thirty-four duels outside of class in my second year alone!"
-Carlton Charming (Third Year)
"Although I never imagined Duelling to be a favourite class, Mr Smarsit made it fun and interesting. At the end of my first year, I can now say that it is definitely my favourite!"
-Connor Charming (Second Year)
"When I started at the Academy I thought this class was stupid since I used to brawl with my brothers all the time. After a couple of months, I still think it's stupid, but I'm good at it so I guess it's alright."
