DRAGON CARE
(Pictured is Department Head, Mr Potte)
Dragon Care is a popular subject at the Academy, but not often a successful one. Each Charming is given a dragon egg at some point in their first year. The eggs are provided to the Academy by HotShot's Farm on the outskirts of Old Darlingdeen - which raises the dragons of students who fail the class. Dragon Care is an exciting opportunity to learn first-hand about the wonderful creatures that we co-exist with in our world.
Not every student has the skills to raise a dragon, but each student is given a maximum of three chances - one for each year at the Academy. If the student manages to hatch and raise a dragon in his first year, that dragon will remain with him for the rest of his time at the Academy and beyond - unless the student decides to donate the dragon back to HotShot's. We take Dragon Care very seriously at the Academy as it teaches the young boys responsibility.
Students begin Dragon Care in their first week at the Academy and continue throughout their time at school. If the student is not successful in hatching their egg, or if their dragons abandon them upon hatching, the students are only given three chances to hatch a dragon and maintain their relationship with it.

An Extract From Dragons, We Love Them by Gilfred McGillun
This is one of the set textbooks for first year Dragon Care.
"Dragons are majestic creatures that deserve attention and respect. If a dragon feels that it is not receiving the affection that it deserves, it will not stay with its master. Dragons are incredibly loyal to the masters they perceive to be suitable and will defend them to no end if threatened. The bond between a dragon and its master is sacred, something to be cherished and admired."

What Students Are Saying
"I never thought in my life that I would be able to have my very own dragon. Victus is the best companion I could ask for. Without Mr Potte's instructions and guidance, I don't think I would have been able to raise Victus as well as I have. I can't thank him enough!"
-Conrad Charming (Third Year)
"I failed to hatch my dragon in my first year and was so disappointed when everyone else around me had a dragon and I didn't. Luckily, I took to heart Mr Potte's guidance and now I have Lila. I couldn't be happier!"
-Charlie Charming (Second Year)
"My egg didn't hatch this year but Mr Potte has been so encouraging, I know I can do better next year!"
